Travel Cajón - New World Drums
Yellow with an Orange top. Brass strap buttons and screws.
Travel Cajón from New World Drums. Our Travel Cajóns are built using baltic birch. We use 1/2" for the box, and 1/8" for the top and bottom. This combination creates a good source of resonance of the snares (always on) on the top and the airflow through the soundholes on the end of the box. Each of our Travel Cajóns comes equipped with strap buttons, enabling the player to use a wide variety of guitar straps or similar for ease of travel or to facilitate playing the cajon while standing. Each Trave Cajón also has feet on the bottom.
A cajón is a box-shaped drum/percussion instrument played by tapping or slapping the "face" of the drum, usually a thin plywood. Cajóns are thought to have originated with enslaved people in the Spanish colonial Americas and were possibly adapted from shipping crates in port cities.
Standard cajóns are usually larger boxes, and are played by sitting on the top and playing the box between your knees. Our laptop/tabletop versions are played on a surface or using a strap so you can play and dance at the same time.
