Description
16" Frame Drum with Instant Slide Tuning - Red, Yellow, and Black
This drum features a red shell, black tuning beads, and a three-color dyed goatskin head.
Our Instant Slide Tuning allows you to change the pitch the drum by simply sliding a tuning bead. No tools. No lacing. Just slide the beads towards the outside of the drum to tighten the head. Slide the beads back towards the inside ring after you are done playing and the head will return to it's normal state.
Our frame drums are cut to just under 3" in height, then the bearing edge for the head is cut while the other side is routed. The hoop is sanded and outfitted with cross-pieces that double as both support for the hoop and a handhold.
We roll steel wire into a ring the proper size, then wrap it in heat-shrink. Then we punch holes in the drumhead. We soak the head in solution, apply the dye, then thread the steel ring through the holes. Once the ring is threaded it is very delicately welded with the head in place. The head is then placed on the shell, tied in place and allowed to dry. Once the head is dry the inside ring is positioned and the lacing and tuning beads are added. The end of the lacing is formed into a loop that serves as both a carrying handle and way to hand your drum on the wall to show it off when it is not being played.
Our frame drums come with one Native-American style beater.
Each of of our drums is handmade in our workshop in Eureka Springs. Every drum is unique. When you buy a drum from New World Drums you know that you will have a unique, playable piece of art.
